Both innkeepers, Bob Leblanc and Charles Van Metre, are no strangers to the hospitality/entertainment world. After a lifetime of theatre and cruise ships, innkeeping seemed to be a natural progression for their life endeavors. Bob, a native of New Hampshire and Charles of West Virginia, started their theatrical careers in l958. Both performed as singer/actors in several East Coast summer musical theatres. Bob also appeared on CBS-TV soaps "Secret Storm" and "Love of Life," along with the National Tour of "Man of La Mancha." Charles spent a year touring the U.S. and Canada with Fred Waring's Pennsylvanians before returning to NYC. In l960, they met during an off-broadway production of "South Pacific." Bob expressed, to cast members, his desire to open a summer theatre in New Hampshire. Charles became very interested and in l962, the two of them opened The Rochester Music Theatre. The next 12 years they presented nine musicals each summer. Besides producing, Bob was Artistic Director and Charles, Executive Director. Occasionally, they would lend their talents to perform a lead in one of the productions. Bob's favorite role was Tevye in "Fiddler On the Roof," with Charles selecting Tommy in "Brigadoon." During the winter season, both worked on cruise ships; Bob as Cruise Director/Entertainer, and Charles as Assistant Cruise Director/Entertainer. Their 25 years of travel has taken them to all parts of the world. They have many fond memories of excursions to the Taj Mahal, Sydney Opera House, Pyramids of Egypt, South African safaris and the beautiful waters of the South Pacific. "We've had a wonderful life and travelled with many wonderful people. We look forward to sharing our experiences with guests at The Inn At Antietam located on the hallowed grounds of the Antietam Battlefield." |
